West Moreton Anglican College (WestMAC) has long been a pillar of excellence in Ipswich’s education landscape. With its 38-hectare campus and focus on holistic development, the College offers a nurturing environment for students from Prep to Year 12. Under the leadership of Andrew Peach, WestMAC is focused on further strengthening its reputation for excellence and opportunity for all students.
“Education plays such an important part in our lives,” says Mr Peach. “It’s about shaping communities and helping young people find their place in the world.”
Mr Peach’s leadership philosophy emphasises the importance of meaningful connections between education and community, which has shaped his approach across various teaching and leadership roles.
Underpinning the College’s success are its core values of wisdom, kindness, courage, and respect, which are woven into every aspect of college life. With over 35 extracurricular programs, including 19 musical ensembles, 15+ sports, and dance, students have abundant opportunities to explore their talents. WestMAC also offers hands-on learning through its working farm, along with specialised programs like Rural Operations and vocational courses through the Trade Skills Centre. “WestMAC’s diverse programs set us apart,” says Mr Peach. “Our goal is to help every student excel and pursue their passions.”
WestMAC’s strong ties with RAAF Base Amberley make it the school of choice for over 80 Defence families. Recognising the unique challenges of military life, the College offers dedicated support through a Defence School Mentor, helping families navigate transitions and fostering resilience. Additionally, the College is home to the 225 Australian Air Force Cadet Squadron, where students develop leadership and teamwork skills.
Recent achievements reflect WestMAC’s commitment to both academic and co-curricular excellence. In 2024, the College saw a 5% increase in students achieving an ATAR above 90, and over 70% of students earned vocational qualifications, demonstrating the College’s successful focus on both academic and vocational pathways.
Looking ahead, the College is embarking on its 2040 Master Plan, including the current construction of a three-story Student Hub, designed to foster collaboration and creativity. “This development represents our commitment to innovation and excellence,” says Mr Peach.
With a strong foundation and a clear vision for the future, WestMAC remains a beacon of educational excellence in Ipswich, shaping the leaders of tomorrow. As Mr Peach concludes, “It’s an exciting time to be part of the WestMAC community.”
